Peruparampil Nair Tharavadu is an old, ARISTOCRATIC HINDU Tharavadu of KERALA STATE, INDIA. This Hindu Nair Tharavadu is based in AROOR, ALLEPPEY DISTRICT of KERALA STATE, INDIA. During olden days the Senior Most male member was the Head of the family. He is known as Karanavar. He was the administrator of the Tharavadu. The system of Marumakkaththayam was prevailing those days in which Nephew /niece become the legal heir of the properties. But this system was changed in tune with the social reforms, 100 years back and now the system of Makkaththayam is in force in which the son/daughter become the legal heir. Around 80 Families are under this Tharavadu settled in different parts of India and abroad. Now the 10th Generation of this Tharavadu has taken birth.
PERUPARAMPIL SERPENT TEMPLE IS ONE AMONG THE OLDEST SERPENT TEMPLES IN KERALA OWNED AND MANAGED BY THE NAIR FAMILY MEMBERS OF PERUPARAMPIL. This Temple is supposed as constructed 500 years back by the Ancestors of Peruparampil Tharavadu to protect and worship the Serpent Gods and Deities.
Later on, due to financial crisis the members of the Tharavadu could not maintain the temple and it lead to the deterioration of the Temple. When the members of the Tharavadu started facing problems in their day-to-day life, they sought the advice of Astrologers and they advised the members that due to the deterioration of Tharavadu Temple the Gods are angry and providing better shelter for them is the only solution to come out of the crisis in life. Accordingly members joined together 4 years back and decided to renovate the temple and to resume the rituals and poojas in the temple. They mobilised the fund from among themselves and reconstructed the temple under the guidelines of Vasthu Consultants and the Religious Heads.
The Deities in the new Sreekovil (Sanctum) and other places were placed on 07/7/2010. 2 Deities are placed in the Sreekovil and 22 others are also having their place in this temple.
A sum equal to 45000 US Dollars were spent for the renovation and allied expenses. Now Poojas and offerings are giving during the first week of every month. Priests from the famous Puliyannoor Mana and Ameda Mana are in charge of the Temple Poojas. A committee consisting the family members is in charge of the administration of Temple.
This Temple is situated in 60 Sq.Meters of land in which most of the area are covered by a forest known SARPPAKKAAVU means PLACE OF SERPENT GODS. This beautiful Kavu is dense with wide range of trees, medicinal plants, etc. It is a safe shelter for variety of birds and other specious. A pond is also there in the Kavu. The Temple Committee is very keen in maintaining the Kavu and during renovation, they took special care to protect the Kavu. That area is very calm and cool and nobody can go inside the Kavu other than the priests to offer Poojas.
